February 26 1983, a star is born.
Not only does Carola win the Swedish Song Contest with "Främling",
she gets the maximum score by every jury group, something that
never happened in the history of the competition. She also wins
the heart of the Swedish people and becomes an over night success!
Carola makes TV history in Sweden when she represents
Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest in Munich in April of
1983. Amazing 6.1 million people, which is almost 85% of the
population, are watching her land a third place in the competition.
Her debut album "Främling" sells over a million copies, which earns Carola her
first major award, the international Golden Ampex Reel Award
for exceptional record sales. "Främling"
is still today the most sold album in Sweden ever!
Carolas first tour is one of the most successful
ever in Sweden. In 23 cities of the 26 she visits, she sets a new record
in number of ticket sales. When the tour is over 220.000 people
have seen Carola in concert.
In 1986, Carola releases the
double platinum album "Runaway" which
is written and produced by the Gibb brothers of the BeeGees.
The album sells 230.000 copies in Sweden.
After a short break away from the spotlight, Carola makes
her comeback in the Swedish Song Contest in
1990, performing "Mitt i ett äventyr" which comes
in second in the competition.
The following year Carola wins
the Eurovision Song Contest with "Fångad
av en stormvind", which starts a new successful period
in Carolas career. 23.000 tickets are sold to her first concert
of in Gothenburg, the first stop on her summer tour in 1991,
a number that during this time was only for international artists
like U2, Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen.
The album "My Tribute" earns Carola the gospel
artist of the year in Holland in 1994.
In 1996, Carola wins the Guldmasken Award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her portrayal of Maria von Trapp in the classic musical "The Sound of Music".
In 1999, Carola goes to Bethlehem to record the best
selling album in Sweden that year, the Christmas
album "Jul i Betlehem". The album still sells well around Christmas every year and is one of Carola's best selling albums.
The 2001 album "My Show" marks Carolas return
to pop music. The single "I Believe in Love"
becomes a big hit on Swedish dance floors. On the album, Carola
has co-written most of the songs and collaborated with big names
like Burt Bacharach and the BeeGees.
In 2002, Carola makes her West
End debut in the musical "Les Miserables".
Carola celebrates her 20th
anniversary in 2003, by releasing the double
platinum collection "Guld platina och passion", perform
two sold out shows at Cirkus in Stockholm, go on a summer tour,
release the concert DVD "Jubileumsshowen" and the
4 CD box "Guld platina och passion - Det mesta med Carola".
The song "När löven faller", which Carola
co-wrote, becomes a big hit on the Svensktoppen chart.
In the Swedish Song Contest 2005, Carola debuts the new single "Genom allt", which becomes a big radio hit in Sweden.
In 2006, Carola once again competes in, and wins the Swedish Song Contest with "Evighet". The single quickly sells gold and becomes Carola's first no. 1 single in Sweden ever. In the Eurovision Song Contest the English version, "Invincible" ends up at fifth place.
In 2007, Carola receives the Litteris et Artibus medal from the Royal Highness the King of Sweden.
Everything Carola touches literally becomes gold. Her collection
of gold and platinum discs is as impressive as
her talent. Whether she sings pop music, hymns, gospel or performs
in a musical, her passion and dedication shines through!
